RURAL+ — Remote Understanding and Rural Access to Learning — is the Bar JUNI & Irene Menakaya Foundation International's flagship initiative for closing the digital education gap in developing communities. Working through CTADA, we establish solar-powered learning centres, provide targeted teacher training in digital tools, and engage communities in maintaining their own educational infrastructure.
Every RURAL+ centre delivers lifelong learning opportunities aligned with the UN 2030 Agenda — specifically Sustainable Development Goal 4 on inclusive and equitable quality education. Our model addresses three core barriers simultaneously: unreliable electricity, shortage of trained teachers, and the prohibitive cost of learning materials.
RURAL+ tackles the three root barriers to rural education simultaneously — not one at a time.
A four-phase community-led deployment model built for sustainability.
RURAL+ is implemented on the ground through CTADA — a trusted community development partner with deep roots in the regions we serve. This partnership ensures that every centre is embedded within local networks of trust, accountability, and long-term ownership.
Together, we share the conviction that sustainable education infrastructure must be community-managed to endure. CTADA handles community liaison, local governance, and on-the-ground operations so that each RURAL+ centre truly belongs to the people it serves.
