Hundreds Receive Free Healthcare as US Doctors Partner with Chief John Agulue for Medical Outreach in Umunya. 
  
Tuesday, August 4th, 2026 | Umunya, Anambra State

Umunya community in Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State came alive on Monday, 4th August 2026 as a team of medical doctors from the United States of America* arrived for a large-scale free medical outreach organized  by the Chief John Agulue.

The one-day outreach, held at St Theresa Catholic Church Umunya, it drew residents from Umunya and neighboring communities who turned out in their numbers to access free medical consultations, treatment, and health education.

Services Offered
The US-based medical team, working alongside Nigerian doctors, nurses, and volunteers, provided services including:
- General medical consultation and diagnosis
- Free drugs distribution for malaria, hypertension, diabetes, and infections
- Blood pressure and blood sugar screening
- Eye checks and distribution of reading glasses
- Health talks on hygiene, maternal health, nutrition, and disease prevention
- Pediatric and elderly care

Over 800 residents were attended to within the day, with many receiving medications at no cost.

Partnership for Impact
Speaking at the event, representatives of the ASA-USA said the outreach was part of the foundation’s mission to bridge healthcare gaps in underserved communities. 

According to the foundation’s coordinator: 
> "We believe everyone deserves access to quality healthcare. Bringing doctors from the USA to partner with local health workers in Umunya is our way of giving back and ensuring people get proper checkups and treatment early."

The visiting doctors from the USA expressed joy at the warm reception and said they were committed to supporting health initiatives in Nigeria. They also trained local volunteers on basic first aid and preventive health practices.

Community Response
Community leaders and beneficiaries praised the initiative.  

The Parish Priest gave a speech that ended up with praises and thankful gestures. 

Beneficiaries described the outreach as "timely and life-saving," especially for elderly residents and mothers with young children.

Looking Ahead
The ASA-USA stated that plans are underway to return to Umunya quarterly and to extend similar outreaches to other towns in Anambra State before the end of 2026.

The August 4th medical outreach in Umunya stands as a reminder of what is possible when global partners and local organizations work together to improve community health.
